The Baron Rojo history began to take, shape in the late seventies, when brothers and guitarists Armando y Carlos de Castro started to become disillusioned with the musical direction of Coz, their band at the time. Coz was a Spanish band which had gradually turned it’s back on true Rock music, in order to achieve pop-style singles success –something which both angered and disappointed the brothers de Castro. Thus idea to form a more savage troupe took seed and Baron Rojo, was cultivated.
Linking with drummer Hermes Calabria and well known Spanish session player, bassist Jose Luis Campuzano, Baron Rojo entered the studio to record their debut album, “Larga vida al rock and roll” which naturally enough means “Long live rock and roll”. The album took off immediately in Spain, selling phenomenally. Inspired by their success the band decided to fly to England to record their follow-up album –something unheard of for a Spanish band!
During Baron Rojo’s stay in England, they played two gigs at the Marquee Club and the Fullham Greyhound, where the band were joined on stage by Iron Maiden’s vocalist Bruce.
